More Info

The Kautz Family has the most significant plantings of this unique grape variety in the Lodi and Sierra Foothills. Created at the University of California at Davis in 1948 by Dr. Harold Olmo, Symphony is a cross between Muscat of Alexandria and Grenache Gris that thrives in the mineral-rich soils of these two distinct regions. Vineyards were planted between 1998-2005, which offers a selection of maturity.
Ironstone practices sustainable viticulture; such as planting cover crops to improve soil quality, composting, owl & raptor perches, riparian habit restoration, use of drip irrigation to minimize water use. In addition, owl boxes and wood duck boxes around the vineyards and ponds helping to preserve the surrounding habitats.

"This is consistently a delightful aromatic white wine, not that complex but well made from the symphony grape. Expect melon, honey and ripe pear aromas to lead to a sweet intensely flavoured fruity wine. The length is good and it finishes almost dry. Chill well and enjoy on its own or with mildly spicy Asian cuisine. Tasted October 2017."

"This is a ripe fresh floral muscat like wine made from the symphony grape. Expect a lifted perfumed nose of honey, melon and ripe pear aromas with lavendar hints, to lead to a sweet intensely flavoured fruity wine. The length is decent but it finishes unexpectedly swiftly after the fireworks on the nose. Chill well and enjoy on its own as an aperitif. Tasted February 2017."

Best Buy. “Honey is the key word to describe the nose and flavour of this extremely aromatic and just slightly sweet wine, which also offers notes of honeysuckle and honeydew. Winemakers often turn the grape Symphony (a cross of Muscat of Alexandria and Grenache Gris) into a sweet, dessert-style wine, but this shows how good it can be in a drier version.”
