More Info

The Cauquenes area is part of the Maule Valley denomination of origin and is located approximately 400 kilometers south of Santiago. The region has a warm temperate climate, with generally warm, dry summers with daytime temperatures ranging from 28°–30°C and cold nights of 8°–11°C. Autumn is cold and wet, with total precipitation ranging from 250 mm to 500 mm, depending on the sector.

The grapes are grown in our own vineyard, planted in 2009 and located 5 km south of the town of Cauquenes on the bank of the Tutuvén River, which cools the warm afternoons that are usual in this zone. The vineyard has deep soils with variable texture. While most of the topsoil consists of clay with high silica content, in the subsoil we find partially weathered granite and even quartz. These charac- teristics allow for good retention of water, releasing it slowly as the vines need it. The wines made from vineyards under these unique conditions are usually ripe, well structured, lush and complex and have an explosive finish.

"A spicy, well-made cabernet sauvignon showing some charcoal, olives and grilled herbs to the dark cherry fruit. A hint of tobacco leaves. Pretty full-bodied and nicely chewy with a fluid mid-palate and very firm, but creamy tannins. Pretty long in the finish. Drinkable now, but better in 2024."

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate, Apr/2023

"I find the nose of the 2020 T.H. Cabernet Sauvignon Cauquenes unusually toasty after the wine spent 14 months in French oak barrels, 25% of them new. It's ripe at 14% alcohol, reflecting a warm and very dry year, with abundant, slightly grainy tannins. It needs time and/or powerful food. 40,000 bottles produced."

"Racy cassis, sun-dried tomato, fresh gooseberry leaf, cocoa powder and dark olive. Ripe and juicy with plenty of dusty, silky tannins in the full-bodied palate. Powerful and resolved flavors lead to an excellent, long finish. Drink or hold."

Tim Atkin's Special Report on Chile 2021

2018 -

"If it's grip and tannic backbone that you want in you Cabernet Sauvignon - a Chilean version of a St Estèphe perhaps - then this wine was made for you. Dense, granitic and compact, yet somehow refreshing at the same time, with 30% new wood, layers of dark berry fruit and the structure to age further in the bottle. 2023-30."

Platinum Medal - "Sleek and silky with beautiful layers of tobacco leaf, blackcurrant, graphite and warm earth, while the palate is linear and sinewy with soft spiced cassis fruit, a bright lifted acidity and clean cut tannins."

James Suckling, Apr/2019

2016 -

"Loads of fruit to this cabernet sauvignon, but it’s all very reserved and attractive, featuring dark plums, graphite, brambleberries and fresh herbs. I love the fleshy character to this wine on the palate, but it remains very dialed-in and restrained with a good serving of acidity and firm yet juicy tannins. Drink now."

Robert Parker's The Wine Advocate, Oct/2018

2016 -

"The 2016 T.H. Cabernet Sauvignon Cauquenes is the third vintage for this wine, sourced from a 6.4-hectare vineyard planted south of Cauquenes in 2007. The grapes from this low-yielding year were fermented with indigenous yeasts after a six-day cold maceration, and the wine matured for 14 months in French oak barrels, 32% of them new. There is no trace of the oak, which is neatly folded into the fruit, and there is contained ripeness. This is a round and supple Cabernet from a slightly warmer place that is nicely balanced by a cooler year. It has the granite texture on the palate. 39,763 bottles produced."
